Explore the Monteverde Forest at Night

Explore Monteverde at Night in Search for birds and other animals.

El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde is the only one in the country that is primarily focused on birds, and that’s not all…

First, you will start with a small introduction where you will be assigned a local tour guide.

Next, you will walk around the open areas of the property where the forest is lower. This is where you will spend about an hour finding birds sleeping in trees.

Then, you will enter the property’s nature trail system to explore and learn about this preservation area. This is where you will find a few more birds as well as some of the coolest insects (like walking sticks, tarantulas and leafcutter ants), rare mammals (like porcupines, opossums, and olingos) and depending on the weather condition, you might even spot snakes and frogs all in their natural habitat.

Finally, you will head back to reception to wrap things up.
This is where you can ask for a map so you can come back the next day to continue to hike the trails on your own at NO ADDITIONAL COST.

Amazing tour with knowledgeable guide El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

I had the absolute best time on my night tour at El Bosque. Dio was really friendly and so knowledgeable about the animals, plants, and history of the area. I learned so much and saw so many different birds, mammals, and interesting bugs. He had the wherewithal to ask about any phobias that I had as we were starting the trip (I don't have any, but I thought it was really insightful of him to ask). I had taken a night tour with a different company the night before and hadn't really enjoyed my experience. Within 10 minutes, Dio had already spotted twice as many animals as I saw on the entire tour the night before. He also helped me get some really great pictures (much better than the ones I took). I was the only person on the tour that night, but I was told that even when it's busier, they limit the tour sizes to 6 people. In addition to really enjoying the tour with Dio, I had a great time talking to Ernesto while I waited for my shuttle. He gave me some tips on some great local places to eat and was overall just really friendly and welcoming. If you're in the area, you should definitely book a tour with them.

Great Tour! El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

We had a great tour with our guide. He pointed out all kinds of wildlife that we would never have seen otherwise. The trails are right on the property and are quiet and secluded. I would highly recommend it.

Delightful guide El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

Our guide was able to spot insects and small animals that we would have certainly missed. She was wonderful with the grandchildren and did not exclude them from the conversation. We enjoyed a starry night with our guide taking us to a spectacular viewing spot near a huge anthill.

Creatures of the night! El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

We did a night tour with El Bosque Tours in the Monteverde area in January of 2020. There are a series of private reserves that are interconnected that form a protected corridor for birds and animals in the area. El Bosque is one of them. The tour is through the El Bosque forest and along the El Tigre trail. Our guide, Giovanni was a bird expert and was able to show us many roosting birds, from parrots to mot mots and more. We saw tarantulas, a nine banded armadillo, trap door spiders and much, much more. Giovanni kept us laughing and educated us at the same time. If you get him, it's your lucky day. I'm happy to recommend El Bosque Night Tour.

The park is gorgeous and the staff is very nice, Giovanni is a special and very knowledgeable guide. What animals you see depends on how lucky you get but we managed to see many interesting things!

Raining and wonderful night walk with Roiner El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

Not deterred by the weather or that there were only two of us, Roiner guided us through the forest to see the end of the diurnal birds' day and the beginning of evening and then night on the trails of this remarkable place. Small group means small group! Anything we spotted he secured with a picture through his scope in case the bird flew away or we could not see well enough with our own eyes. The pictures are precious to me because I am not a camera pro and would have had none. Next visit, God willing, I'll be at El Basque again and hope this night walk is ongoing.

Intimate and Educational El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

This night tour was recommended to us by our host, Ana, and we couldn’t be happier that she set it up for us. This company is truly passionate about the forest and the animals that reside in the forest. This was reflected in the very small group size along with being the only tour out there at 1 time. It was an intimate setting and our tour guide Royner was so knowledgeable about the wildlife. All of the staff was super friendly and they welcomed us with fresh home made coffee upon arrival. If you are looking for an intimate tour, this is your company.

Night Walk El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

This was an nice way to spend the evening. Our guide, Dio, was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the area, and this particular tour was very private- 4 of us in total and we didn’t see any other groups the entire time.

Great night walk on the grounds of El Bosque El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

The night walk was through the extensive trails on the grounds of Hotel El Bosque. Our guide was knowledgeable and excellent at spotting many animals. A night hike was an important part of our trip to Costa Rica as the animals that are active at night are very different. We would highly recommend this activity

Night tour El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

We had a very windy night so there wasn’t much to see in trees but our guide still found pretty cool birds for us to watch while they were sleeping. We also saw a lot of bugs which the kids found pretty cool! All in all, it was fun and a good experience.

Pretty good overall El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

Our tour guide, Deo, is pretty knowledgeable about plants, flowers, and wild animals. It's a small group, including my husband and I, plus another couple. We were able to see some birds, insects very closely and a coati. We had a good time on the night trip.

Brilliant tours with a knowledgeable guide El Bosque Night Tour Monteverde

We did both the night and bird tour at El Bosque where we were staying. Both were with Roiner, who had excellent knowledge of wildlife and birds which he was keen to share. He also had a scope and took photos using it so we got really clear images of the things we were seeing. Obviously this is nature so there are no guarantees of what you will see but Roiner has a keen eye and spotted things we never would have - such as birds fast asleep in a tree and tarantulas holes. If you can only do one tour, I would recommend the early night tour as this is better value for money and you get some daylight so might see some birds too - we were lucky enough to see a toucan on both tours as well as lots of other birds and wildlife
