DISCOVER EL BOSQUE TRAILS!

El Bosque Trails is a small forest set aside for conservation.

This 23-acre Nature Preserve has many trails open to the public from 7 am to 4 pm.

Perfectly located between the Children’s Eternal Forest (the country’s largest private reserve) and the Monteverde Creek, El Bosque (“The Forest”) is part of the Biological Corridor Pajaro Campana, which is extremely important for the survival of many highly endangered species such as the Resplendent Quetzal, the Three-Wattled Bellbird and many other creatures that come here for food supply when the wild avocados are no longer found in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve.

This is great because animals have to cross the property to drink from the creek, and that is why this place is one of the best spots for birdwatching (day and night).

If you are one of our customers (say you are staying with us at El Bosque Lodge or you booked a tour via our website) you will have free entrance everyday to enjoy our beautiful trail system.

Otherwise, you can still use our trails at a very affordable rate of $5 per person, which is 3-5 times less expensive than the other nature reserves in the area. We are passionate about conservation and our goal with this small fee is simply to keep the forest protected and the trails in good shape.

If you want to avoid the crowds and get a more intimate experience with nature, this place is for you. While the other nature reserves in the area (i.e. Curi Cancha, El Bosque Eterno de los Niños, and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve) allow up to 500 tourists at a time, at El Bosque Trails we typically receive around 20 visitors per day, which makes a huge difference if connecting with nature is what you’re looking for.

Since this small forest is not crowded with visitors, you will probably see more wildlife here (especially birds) than what you will see in any of the those nature reserves (even if you walk on your own without one of our guides). Obviously, nature is unpredictable so we cannot guarantee how much wildlife you will see, but this is usually the case. And the best part of receiving a lower volume of tourists is the tremendous positive impact on nature conservation. Animals know this (and they appreciate it!).

Limiting the number of tourists is not only beneficial to your experience, but more importantly, it has a tremendous positive impact on nature. Simply put, this is the least touristy, more natural reserve in Monteverde. Animals know (and appreciate this).
