We visited Selvatura Monteverde specifically for a guided hike through the cloud forest and the hanging bridges. It was worth paying for a guide to take a walk as they picked out the animals and fauna and how the forest has changed over the years. There are several suspension bridges to cross, so skip it if you don't like heights.

Traveling from La Fortuna to Monteverde on a shuttle is the best way to go. You can manage to do this via the public bus system but it's extremely hectic. You need to grab a few buses and speak Spanish. Don't use the bus unless you can't afford the shuttle.
